Oborevwori heads to Germany for high-level talks with Julius Berger – Delta Govt

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, will depart Nigeria on Tuesday for a strategic working visit to Germany, where he is expected to hold high-level discussions with executives of construction giant, Julius Berger.
This was disclosed on Monday by the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, during a press briefing held at Government House, Asaba.
Mr. Aniagwu, who will accompany the governor alongside his Technical Assistant, emphasised that the visit
is aimed at deepening collaboration and securing more favourable infrastructure project terms for the state.
He added the visit is purely official and will focused on improving infrastructure delivery in Delta.
“This is not a leisure trip. It is a working visit designed to strengthen our ongoing partnership with Julius Berger.
”The Governor is renowned for his negotiation acumen, and we are confident that this engagement will yield improved terms and significant value for our state, ” he said.
Aniagwu was joined at the briefing by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, and Executive Assistant on Public Enlightenment, Projects and Policies, Mr. Olisa Ifeajika.
He also recalled that previous international engagements had yielded major project breakthroughs for Delta State.
Notably, he referenced the administration’s engagement in China, which facilitated contracts such as the N59 billion Agbor in Ika South Flyover and the N39 billion Otovwodo Junction Flyover in Ughelli North LGA both on the critical Warri–Patani corridor.
The Commissioner also gave insights into the state’s forthcoming 2026 budget, revealing that it would be pegged at approximately N1.5 trillion.
According to him, the proposed budget will place a strong emphasis on capital projects, social welfare, and infrastructure expansion consistent with the priorities outlined in the Governor’s MORE Agenda.
He further said ministries, departments and agencies were currently finalising their inputs following the approval of the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF), ahead of the budget’s presentation to the State Executive Council.
On economic empowerment, Aniagwu announced that Governor Oborevwori had mandated that all forthcoming empowerment programmes expected to roll out next month must be inclusive and transparently implemented across the state’s 25 local government areas.
“These initiatives will be coordinated by key ministries and agencies to ensure they create sustainable livelihoods and stimulate productivity,” he said.
Aniagwu further revealed that several new projects, cumulatively worth billions of naira, would soon break ground, including the high-profile Otovwodo Junction Flyover.
He added that Governor Oborevwori had directed contractors to maintain uninterrupted momentum on ongoing works, regardless of political timelines.
“We are focused on delivering results, not on electoral calendars. Governance continues at full pace,” he said.
The governor’s trip to Germany is seen as another move to reinforce the administration’s commitment to quality infrastructure, economic efficiency, and international best practices in project execution.
