Oborevwori to receive PTI leadership award at 2025 international hydrocarbon conference

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, is set to be honoured with the Award of Excellence in Leadership at the prestigious 2025 International Conference on Hydrocarbon Science and Technology (ICHST), in recognition of his impactful governance and contributions to Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
The Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, which is organising the high-level industry event, confirmed the Governor’s nomination in a letter signed by the institution’s Registrar, Mr. Isaac Fregene.
The award, according to PTI, celebrates Oborevwori’s strategic leadership and forward-thinking policies that have supported sustainable growth within the hydrocarbon space, particularly in Delta State, Nigeria’s leading oil-producing region.
Themed “Transforming Africa’s Hydrocarbon Sector: Balancing Growth, Environment and Governance,” the 2025 edition of ICHST will bring together some of the sector’s most influential stakeholders, regulators, and institutions.
These include the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), NNPC Academy, NNPC-RTI, and Cyphercrescent, among others.
The conference is scheduled to hold from October 22 to 23, 2025, at the PTDF Towers in Abuja’s Central Business District.
Governor Oborevwori will receive the leadership award during the official opening ceremony, set for 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 22.
In the nomination letter, PTI lauded the Oborevwori administration’s “dedication to excellence, innovation, and inclusiveness” as key factors that have shaped Delta’s positive influence on the national energy agenda.
The institute also noted that under his leadership, the state has emerged as a model for responsible governance in the oil and gas sector, balancing economic development with environmental stewardship.
The recognition comes at a time when conversations around cleaner energy, regulatory reforms, and inclusive governance are taking centre stage across Africa’s oil economies.
Observers say the award not only affirms Oborevwori’s track record in the energy space but also elevates Delta State’s profile in national and international energy policy circles.
With the hydrocarbon industry facing increasing pressure to align with sustainability and good governance frameworks, the 2025 ICHST is expected to serve as a critical platform for charting the future of oil and gas development across the continent and spotlighting leaders helping to drive that transformation.
