Bayelsa pays tribute to late military administrator, Navy Captain Walter Feghabo

The Bayelsa State Government has expressed deep sorrow over the death of one of its prominent sons, retired Navy Captain Walter Feghabo, a former Military Administrator of both Ebonyi and Delta States.

Feghabo, who held the traditional title of “Amain” as a head chief of the Nembe Kingdom, passed away on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at the age of 67.

He was just weeks away from celebrating his 68th birthday on December 10.

Gôvernor Duoye Diri in statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, described the late Feghabo as a committed public servant, a disciplined military officer, and a true patriot whose contributions to the nation remain indelible.

“Navy Captain Feghabo served Nigeria with distinction. His passing is not only a loss to Bayelsa, but to the entire Ijaw nation and the country at large.

”He was a man of integrity, whose leadership left a lasting impact on every state he administered, ” Diri said.

Feghabo was appointed the pioneer Military Administrator of Ebonyi State following its creation in 1996, a period that also saw the birth of Bayelsa State.

He later served as the Military Administrator of Delta State from 1998 until the return of democratic governance in 1999.

Governor Diri commended the late naval officer for his sterling record in public service, stating that his leadership was marked by discipline, dedication, and a deep sense of responsibility.

He said, “the state mourns a great son who left when his wisdom and experience were still needed,” the governor noted.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Feghabo family, the people of Nembe Kingdom, and all those who were touched by his life and service.”

He also prayed for divine strength and comfort for the bereaved family, urging them to find solace in the legacy of honour and excellence that Captain Feghabo left behind.

Feghabo’s death has prompted an outpouring of tributes across the country, especially from military and political circles, where he was widely respected for his professionalism and statesmanship.

Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in the coming days.
