CVR: Lagos APC announces N20m prize for LGA with highest voter registration

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has introduced a N20 million incentive for the Local Government Area (LGA) that records the highest number of new registrants in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
This was disclosed on Tuesday by the Lagos State APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, at the 2025 APC State Stakeholders’ Forum held in Lagos.
Pastor Ojelabi said the reward system was designed to boost voter registration efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to Ojelabi, similar cash rewards will be extended to wards and polling units to encourage grassroots mobilisation.
“In addition to the N20 million reward for the top-performing LGA, we are offering N5 million to the ward with the highest number of registrations, and N1 million to the leading polling unit,” Ojelabi announced.
He urged party leaders across all structures—polling units, wards, and LGAs—to intensify efforts to mobilise eligible residents for registration and ensure they collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), emphasizing that no one can vote without it.
“No matter how passionate one is about our party, without a PVC, that support cannot translate into votes,” he stressed.
Ojelabi said the meeting offered an opportunity to reflect on the party’s performance over the last two years and to recalibrate strategies toward the 2027 elections.
He revealed plans for a tour of all local government areas in the state to further drive mobilisation efforts.
“Our party remains the beacon of hope for the country. President Bola Tinubu is working hard to reposition the economy, and we must take the Renewed Hope Agenda to every corner of the state,” he said.
Also addressing the gathering, APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, represented by the party’s National Secretary, Dr. Ajibola Basiru, emphasised the need to achieve at least 85 percent voter turnout in the 2027 elections.
He announced a “train-the-trainer” programme scheduled for November 3 and 4 across the South West to educate citizens on the achievements of the APC-led administration.
Former Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, delivering a keynote on “Voter Apathy and the Sanctity of Elections in Nigeria’s Budding Democracy,” expressed concern over declining voter turnout despite increased registration.
“We are witnessing a paradox—growing voter registration figures but declining participation on election day.
“We need to interrogate why the turnout is dropping. At one time, Lagos delivered 1.5 million votes; now, where are our traditional voters?, ” he said.
He urged party members to rekindle enthusiasm among the electorate. “Let us turn our Renewed Hope into Renewed Enthusiasm,” he added.
The forum also featured remarks from federal lawmakers and cabinet members, including Rep. Dolapo Badru, Senator Tokunbo Abiru, Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa, and Minister of Trade and Investment Dr. Olajumoke Oduwole, who all highlighted the administration’s achievements in various sectors.
Also in attendance were prominent political figures and traditional rulers, including former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly Mr. Mudashiru Obasa, former Speaker Mr. Adeyemi Ikuforiji, and Chairman of the Lagos State Advisory Council, Prince Tajudeen Olusi.
