Dangote group clarifies truck involvement in Akungba-Akoko accident

Dangote Group has denied any connection to a truck involved in a fatal road accident in Akungba-Akoko, amid widespread reports circulating on social media.

The accident, which occurred on Wednesday evening around 7:30 p.m., involved a truck loaded with stone dust and a motorcycle near Adekunle Ajasin University.

Local authorities reported that the vehicle lost control before colliding with a permanent barricade at the university’s main gate, resulting in multiple fatalities.

Initial reports varied, with some claiming three deaths while others suggested up to ten casualties.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Dangote Group clarified that the truck, bearing registration number JJJ 365 XB, is not owned by the company or any of its subsidiaries.

The vehicle belongs to an independent logistics operator and was transporting crushed stones in reused sacks, not Dangote products.

The company emphasised that all its trucks were clearly branded, numbered, and operated under strict safety and compliance protocols.

Dangote Group also urged media outlets and the public to verify information before attributing any accident to its fleet, noting that misuse of images of branded trucks could lead to confusion.

“While we extend our deepest condolences to all affected by this tragedy, it is important to distinguish independent vehicles from Dangote’s operations.

“Our commitment to road safety and regulatory compliance remains unwavering, ” the statement read.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ondo State continues to investigate the crash to determine the precise cause and prevent similar incidents.
