Oborevwori pledges church-govt collaboration to drive Delta’s development

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working closely with the church as a partner in advancing sustainable development across the state.
Speaking in Bomadi during a special Mass celebrating the 70th birthday of Bishop Hyacinth Egbebo of the Bomadi Catholic Diocese, the governor described religious institutions as essential allies in shaping both social and economic progress.
He urged church leaders to continue offering prayers, guidance, and support for government policies and projects.
“At times like these, the encouragement and counsel of the church help make governance more impactful, Oborevwori said through his Senior Policy Adviser, Rt. Hon. Funkekeme Solomon, who represented him at the event.
The governor praised Bishop Egbebo for his tireless advocacy on behalf of the marginalised and reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to equitable development in all parts of Delta State.
He highlighted several infrastructure projects in Bomadi, including the completed Ohoror–Bomadi Road, the Tamigbe–Torugbene Road, and the nearly finished Ayakoromor Bridge, stressing his ambition to leave behind one of Nigeria’s most robust road networks by the end of his tenure.
During the homily, Bishop Anthony Ewherido of Warri Diocese spoke on the importance of gratitude and accountability, reminding worshippers that life is a responsibility and blessings must be wisely stewarded.
Bishop Egbebo, the celebrant, expressed appreciation for the governor’s commitment to local infrastructure, particularly the Ohoror–Bomadi Road, and assured the administration of continued prayers for its success.
The birthday Mass drew prominent clerics and government officials, including Metropolitan Archbishop Augustine Obiora Akubueze of the Benin Ecclesiastical Province and Deputy Governor Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo of Bayelsa State, who was represented by his Deputy Chief of Staff.
The event highlighted the ongoing collaboration between Delta State’s government and the church, emphasising the role of faith-based organisations in supporting governance and community development.
