SDP suspends Gabam, top officials amid financial misconduct allegations

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has suspended its National Chairman, Shehu Gabam, alongside the National Auditor, Nnadi Clarkson, and National Youth Leader, Chukwuma Uchechukwu, following allegations of misappropriation of party funds and other financial improprieties.
The announcement came Thursday through Araba Aiyenigba, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, after a meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) at the party’s Abuja Secretariat.
“The National Working Committee, acting under the SDP Constitution, has placed the listed officers on suspension due to prima facie evidence of misconduct, fraudulent activities, and abuse of office,” the statement said.
The disciplinary action is based on a White Paper that reviewed the findings of the party’s Disciplinary Committee, with the party emphasizing the move is aimed at restoring internal discipline and integrity.
In addition, the party noted that several noncompliant members forcibly entered the SDP National Secretariat in July 2025, taking sensitive documents and valuables.
These individuals were apprehended by law enforcement and are currently facing prosecution.
“These measures demonstrate the NWC’s commitment to safeguarding party resources and ensuring adherence to the party constitution,” the statement added.
The suspension represents a major shake-up in SDP’s top leadership, underscoring the party’s effort to reinforce accountability and transparency within its ranks.
