Edo Govt to clear road, power line encroachments

The Edo State Government has announced plans to enforce urban development regulations by clearing encroachments on road reserves and power line right of ways across the state.

Mr. Imoisili Igabali, Managing Director of the Edo State Development and Building Control Agency (EDDBCA), disclosed the plan on Friday in Benin, saying the exercise will target structures and obstructions that have previously received removal notices.

“The exercise will commence this month, focusing on areas where occupants have been served notices.

”All affected parties are advised to remove their belongings before the operation begins,” Igabali said.

The first phase of the clearance will cover the Irhirhi-Ebo-Iyekogba axis, Etete/Etete Road, Ugbor/Ugbor Village Road, Oriokpa, Elema Quarters, Adesuwa Grammar School Road, and Country Home Road, all located in the Edo South senatorial district.

According to the agency, the operation aims to sanitize urban spaces, prevent environmental hazards, and promote safe infrastructure development.

”Residents and property owners in the listed zones have been urged to comply by removing all structures and valuables from the designated right of way ahead of the clearance.”
