Oborevwori suspends polytechnic rector, bursar over alleged misconduct

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has approved the six-month suspension of the Rector and Bursar of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, following allegations of administrative misconduct and financial irregularities.

The directive, contained in a statement signed by Dr. Kingsley Emu, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), also upheld the earlier suspension of the Polytechnic’s Registrar by the institution’s Governing Council.

According to the statement, the suspension is intended, “to allow for a thorough and unbiased investigation into allegations of administrative misconduct and financial breaches levelled against them by the governing council.”

During the suspension period, the Deputy Rector has been directed to act as Rector, while the most senior accountant in the Bursary Department will serve as Acting Bursar, ensuring continuity of administrative and financial operations at the institution.

This move underscored Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to accountability and transparency in public institutions, reinforcing the state government’s zero-tolerance stance against administrative and financial misconduct.

The Governing Council of Delta State Polytechnic had previously initiated the suspensions, citing similar concerns.

The Governor’s approval now placed the decision under the executive oversight of the state government, allowing for a formal investigation to be conducted without interference.

The SSG’s statement did not specify the exact allegations but confirmed that the investigation would ensure an impartial review of the polytechnic’s administration and finances.
