Tinubu can deliver new constitution in 6 months – Agbakoba

Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Olisa Agbakoba, has said President Bola Tinubu has the capacity to provide Nigerians with a new constitution within six months, rather than the usual four-year timeline.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, Agbakoba emphasised that the office of the President currently wielded excessive power, which limits development at the state level.

He argued for greater devolution of power to accelerate governance and improve state-level progress.

On recent military leadership changes by the President, Agbakoba described the reshuffle as commendable but noted that Nigerians were more concerned with tangible improvements in national security.

Agbakoba also commented on the arrest of human rights activist Omoyele Sowore following protests over the detention of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, praising Sowore for his activism and commitment to civil rights.

He further noted that with the resources available, a new constitution that reflects the will and interests of Nigerians was achievable in a fraction of the expected time.
