Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers, says the government’s drive to restore peace and reconciliation across the state is beginning to bear fruit, creating a stronger foundation for growth and development.

Speaking on Saturday during a civic reception in honour of his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu, at Government Secondary School, Akabuka, in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, the Governor said the new spirit of unity among Rivers people was a welcome sign that lasting stability was taking root.

According to him, no community can thrive in an atmosphere of strife, and every effort of his administration is geared toward ensuring enduring peace.

“When there is disorder, progress becomes impossible.

“Our administration believes in dialogue and calm because those are the conditions that attract investment and development, ” Fubara told the gathering.

He noted that the political rancour that once divided the state was gradually giving way to mutual understanding.

Fubara pointed out that leaders who previously kept apart were now attending events together, a development he described as clear proof that reconciliation is working.

The Governor used the occasion to announce the rehabilitation of internal roads in Akabuka and the renovation of Government Secondary School, Akabuka, promising that technical assessments would begin immediately.

“Our engineers will move in to evaluate the roads, while the Ministry of Education will take stock of what needs to be done in this school,” he said.

Fubara also acknowledged the contributions of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, to his political journey, saying he remained appreciative of everyone who helped shape his path.

He commended community leaders, youths and women for maintaining peace and unity in ONELGA, urging them to continue supporting the government’s efforts at inclusive growth.

In her response, Deputy Governor Professor, Ngozi Odu expressed deep gratitude to the people of Akabuka for the honour, describing the event as a reflection of the town’s unity and shared values.

She extended appreciation to Governor Fubara, President Bola Tinubu, FCT Minister Wike, and former Governor Dr. Peter Odili for their guidance and support throughout her public service career.

Odu said the day’s celebration marked by a 21-gun salute and the rare appearance of Ebukele, a traditional masquerade that surfaces only once every 10 years, underscored the community’s cultural pride and respect for the Governor’s leadership.

She described Fubara as “a leader of quiet strength whose calm approach is restoring confidence in government.”

Chairman of the event, Professor Jason Osai, praised Odu as “a model of grace and integrity who has brought pride to her people,” while ONELGA Chairman, Hon. Shedrack Ogbogu, said the reception symbolised unity and renewed recognition for the Deputy Governor’s contributions to the area.
