Kebbi PDP opposes Kabiru Tanimu’s national chairmanship bid

The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in Kebbi State has rejected reports of Alhaji Kabiru Tanimu’s nomination as the party’s National Chairman.
State PDP spokesperson, Alhaji Sani Dododo, disclosed the decision during a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi on Saturday, stressing that the reported nomination lacked consultation with stakeholders in the North-West Zone.
Dododo explained that the party’s zoning arrangement requires all states in the North-West to have the opportunity to present candidates for the position.
He emphasized the role of the zone’s elders in deliberating and selecting a consensus candidate.
“We support the position of the North-West Elders that they should be allowed to select the candidate for the position of the National Chairman of the party,” Dododo said.
The state leadership of the PDP reportedly met to discuss the issue and concluded that Tanimu did not engage with party members in Kebbi before expressing interest in the role.
Dododo described the situation as an attempt to impose a candidate on the zone.
He called on the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) to allow the North-West to determine its preferred candidate in line with the party’s zoning system.
“We call on the NWC to give us in the North-West the opportunity to come up with our consensus candidate to represent us,” Dododo pleaded.
