Police recover stolen truck in Enugu, launch manhunt for suspects

The Enugu State Police Command has recovered a MAN Diesel truck reportedly stolen from where it was parked in Benin City, Edo State, earlier this week.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the vehicle was intercepted around 6:30 a.m. at Ozalla in Nkanu West Local Government Area, along the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway.
The operation was carried out by officers attached to the Ozalla Police Division in collaboration with the Distress Response Squad (DRS).
Ndukwe explained that the recovery followed a distress alert received by the police control room, indicating that the stolen truck was en route to Enugu through the expressway.
Acting swiftly on the information, police operatives mounted surveillance along the route and intercepted the vehicle.
“Upon sighting the officers, the suspects abandoned the truck and escaped into a nearby forest.
“Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing interstate criminal gang, ” he said.
The police spokesman added that the recovered truck has been secured as part of ongoing investigations to trace the culprits and determine their possible links to other vehicle theft cases.
The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mr. Mamman Giwa, commended the operatives for their prompt and coordinated response, describing the recovery as another demonstration of the Command’s commitment to proactive policing.
Giwa also urged residents to remain alert and cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious movements or criminal activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency hotlines: 08032003702, 08086671202, or the State Command-and-Control Centre via 112, 09134666668, and 09134448093.
The Commissioner assured the public that the police would sustain intelligence-driven operations across the state to curb criminal activities and ensure the safety of lives and property.
