IGP promotes one DIG, four AIGs, eleven CPs in ceremony

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on Tuesday officially decorated newly promoted senior police officers with their new ranks in a ceremony held at the Goodluck Jonathan Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

The promotion exercise, conducted by the Police Service Commission, saw 923 officers successfully pass a rigorous process that included written examinations and interviews.

The decorated officers had been recommended by the IGP following this transparent and merit-based assessment.

Among those honoured were DIG Mohammed Dankwara; AIGs Denimen Abibo, Umar Madaki, Nkechi Eze, and Garba Nzukwen; as well as Commissioners of Police Naziru Kankarofi, Nendel Gomwalk, Tijani Fatai, Aniefok Akpan, and Moorkwap Dongshal.

The ceremony elevated one AIG to Deputy Inspector-General of Police, four CPs to AIGs, and eleven Deputy Commissioners of Police to substantive Commissioners of Police.

The event drew distinguished dignitaries, including Senator Simon Lalong, former Governor of Plateau State; Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa; former Governor and current Senator Abdul-Aziz Yari of Zamfara; and Senators Tony Nwoye, Iya Abbas, and Ede Dafinone.

Other attendees included Minister of State for Regional Development, FCT, Alhaji Ahmadu; Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Ambassador Gabriel Aduda; members of the Force Management Team; serving and retired senior police officers; and families of the promoted officers.

In his address, IGP Egbetokun congratulated the officers and urged them to uphold the highest standards of integrity, fairness, and professionalism.

He emphasised the need for community-oriented and intelligence-led policing, as well as the adoption of innovative strategies to combat emerging criminal threats.

The IGP also charged the promoted officers to serve as role models for their subordinates and to demonstrate leadership that inspires confidence and trust in the Nigerian Police Force.

The promotion marked a significant step in strengthening the leadership structure of the Force, ensuring that experienced and competent officers occupy key positions at a time when the nation faces complex security challenges.
