Delta police arrest 7 kidnap suspects, rescue victims

The Delta State Police Command has arrested seven suspects in connection with a kidnapping case at Ubeji Community in Warri South Local Government Area, rescuing three male victims in the process.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said the suspects were apprehended on Thursday by operatives from the Ekpan Division, Uvwie Local Government, following credible information received by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Labe Joseph.

“Upon receiving a distress report of a suspected kidnapping behind the Ubeji Gas Plant, the DPO deployed detectives and patrol teams to the scene.

“The suspects attempted to flee into an abandoned poultry house, but the police swiftly cordoned off the area, leading to their arrest, ” he said.

The rescued victims have been safely reunited with their families. Preliminary investigations indicate that the victims were abducted from a dredging site at Ubeji and transported across a river, with the suspects threatening to harm them if ransom demands were not met.

Edafe added that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang who are still at large.
