EFCC investigates alleged N10m extortion involving Rapper Oladips

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has launched an investigation into claims that some of its operatives extorted N10 million from Nigerian rapper Oladipupo Oladimeji, popularly known as Oladips.

Oladips alleged in an interview with Hip TV that EFCC officials detained him for five days and demanded money for his release without informing him of the reason for his arrest.

He said he opted not to pursue legal action due to what he described as the “corrupt nature of the judiciary.”

In response, the EFCC stated it took the allegations “with great seriousness” and confirmed that an investigation has begun.

Officers involved in Oladips’ case have been summoned to the Commission’s headquarters and relieved of operational duties pending the outcome of the probe.

The Commission emphasised its commitment to integrity and promised to take decisive action if any staff are found culpable.

The EFCC also warned that if the allegations are false and intended to malign the agency, Oladips could face sanctions.

The public has been urged to await the outcome of the investigation while continuing to support anti-corruption efforts.

Oladips, who first gained attention through online freestyles and winning Reminisce’s “King Is Here” rap competition in 2015, previously made headlines in 2023 after false reports of his death circulated on social media.

That incident drew widespread attention to his 2023 album Lazarus, which explores themes of death, faith, and rebirth.
