Nigeria, Germany strengthen partnership to promote global peace, security

Nigeria and Germany are working to deepen their collaboration in promoting global peace, security, and respect for international law.
The announcement was made by Mrs. Annett Günther, Germany’s Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, during the German Unity Day celebration in Abuja.
This year’s event focused on cultural connections under the theme, “Bridging Continents: Celebrating UNESCO Heritage and Cultural Bonds between Germany and Nigeria.”
Ambassador Günther emphasized the importance of cultural heritage as a unifying force and highlighted the 65-year diplomatic relationship between the two nations.
She alao noted that upcoming discussions at the German-Nigerian Binational Commission in Berlin would explore cooperation in energy, climate, investment, minerals, migration, and cultural exchange.
Representing Nigeria’s Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Wahab Akande underscored the strong bilateral ties, noting that trade between the countries has risen by 30 per cent, reaching three billion euros, with over 90 German firms operating in Nigeria.
Both countries have also renewed key agreements on defense and strategic collaboration.
Günther and Nigerian officials reiterated their commitment to expanding partnerships in security, economic development, and sustainable energy, while upholding a rules-based international order.
