10 injured in UK train stabbing, 2 suspects in custody

Two suspects have been arrested following a mass stabbing on a London-bound train, leaving 10 people hospitalised, nine of them with potentially life-threatening injuries, British authorities confirmed.

The attack occurred late Saturday on a train traveling from Doncaster to London’s King’s Cross Station, a heavily trafficked route.

The train was stopped in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, where emergency services, including armed police and paramedics, responded.

“Ten people have been taken to hospital following a multiple stabbing on a train in Cambridgeshire.

”Nine are believed to have suffered life-threatening injuries,” said the British Transport Police, noting that counter-terrorism units are assisting with the investigation.

Passengers described chaotic scenes as people attempted to flee.

Some reported seeing a man with a large knife, and blood on the floors. One witness told The Times that others were hiding in washrooms to avoid the attacker, and some were accidentally trampled in the panic.

Police eventually tasered and restrained the suspect on the platform, while a second person was also taken into custody. The identities of the suspects and the motive remain unclear.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the attack as “appalling” and expressed his sympathy for the victims, praising the swift response of emergency services.

Interior Minister Shabana Mahmood confirmed the arrests.

Cambridgeshire Mayor Paul Bristow described the scenes as “horrendous” and offered thoughts and prayers for those affected.

The train line was temporarily closed, causing major disruption, and the scene was treated as a crime scene.

The London North Eastern Railway (LNER) urged passengers to avoid travel in the area.

Knife crime in England and Wales has risen steadily over the past decade, with the government actively working to reduce incidents.

Carrying a knife in public can result in up to four years in prison.

Recent high-profile knife attacks, including a stabbing at a Manchester synagogue in October, have fueled national concern over public safety and violent crime.
