Senate President denounces fake quote attributed to him by online platform

The Office of the President of the Senate has refuted a spurious statement circulated by an online platform, which falsely claimed that Senate President His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio, GCON, made remarks concerning violence in Nigeria and U.S. affairs.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Senate President.

The post, which read, “The killing is taking place in Nigeria not in USA, Trump should focus on U.S.

”Nigerians are not complaining about the killings, we are fully satisfied with the condition of Nigeria”, is entirely fabricated Hon. Eyiboh added.

“The Senate President never made such a statement publicly, privately, in writing, or in conversation,” the statement clarified.

It further condemned the misuse of a photograph showing Senator Akpabio at an official event as a tool to lend false credibility to the quote.

Senator Akpabio, the statement emphasised, is a statesman of international repute and a strong advocate for diplomacy, mutual respect, and constructive international relations.

He holds U.S. President Donald Trump in high regard and would never issue statements that interfere with another nation’s internal affairs, nor would he speak outside the mandate of Nigeria’s Executive or foreign policy framework.

Describing the post as an act of “digital recklessness,” the Senate President’s office warned that such misinformation was intended to create confusion, damage reputations, and stir unnecessary diplomatic tension.

The public was urged to ignore the falsehood entirely, while Rant HQ and similar purveyors of fake news were cautioned against using fabricated stories to chase online attention.

The statement reaffirmed the Senate President’s commitment to truthful, transparent, and responsible communication, both within Nigeria and internationally.
