Police declare Sowore wanted over planned Lagos protest

The Lagos State Police Command has declared human rights activist Omoyele Sowore wanted for allegedly planning to disrupt public peace through a protest on the Third Mainland Bridge.
Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, told journalists that the planned demonstration was unnecessary as the affected Oworonshoki residents had already been compensated by the government.
“Sowore is wanted for causing public disturbance and obstructing traffic.
”We are closing in on him wherever he is,” Jimoh said, adding that 13 suspects linked to the protest have been arrested.
The police dismissed reports that residents were attacked during the demolition exercise, clarifying that it was conducted by the Lagos State Department of Urban Development and Planning with the State Task Force.
Sowore had earlier vowed to stage the protest following his release from Kuje Prison, where he and others, including Aloy Ejimakor, were granted bail for unlawful assembly during the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow rally.
His lawyer, Temitope Temokun, claimed Sowore was forcefully taken to prison despite meeting bail conditions.
Sowore, in turn, accused security operatives of attacking peaceful protesters in Abuja.
The Lagos Police urged residents to remain calm and assured that public safety measures were in place across the state.
