FG pushes digital tools to enhance policy coordination, performance monitoring

The federal government has announced efforts to harness digital technology for real-time monitoring of national priorities and performance indicators, as part of a broader push to strengthen coordination across government agencies.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, made the disclosure on Tuesday at a sectorial retreat in Abuja for heads of agencies under the Office of the SGF (OSGF).
The retreat, themed “Strengthening Coordination for Results: Aligning Mandates with Presidential and Service Priorities for Effective Policy Implementation,” brought together senior officials to review strategies for improving policy delivery.
Describing technology as a “powerful tool for enhancing transparency, coordination, and efficiency,” Akume emphasised that digital innovation must become an indispensable ally in governance.
He said the government was advancing initiatives such as digital dashboards, e-government platforms, and data integration frameworks to enable evidence-based decision-making.
“These tools will empower us to make better-informed decisions, track progress accurately, and communicate results effectively to the Nigerian people,” Akume said.
The SGF also attributed persistent policy failures to weak inter-agency collaboration, insufficient performance monitoring, and poor coordination.
He noted that the Tinubu administration has outlined an ambitious vision for national development through the Renewed Hope Agenda, focusing on economic revitalization, social inclusion, infrastructure development, and governance reforms.
Highlighting the importance of efficient resource use, Akume said: “Optimal impact requires clarity of roles, seamless coordination among MDAs, evidence-based decision-making, and a strong culture of accountability and performance.
”Efficiency is not only about cutting costs or speeding up processes; it is about achieving meaningful results.”
Special Adviser to the President, Hadiza Usman, stated that the retreat was designed to ensure that agencies align their activities with presidential priorities and operate with a clear sense of purpose.
The sectorial retreat is part of ongoing government efforts to modernise administrative processes and strengthen institutional capacity to deliver on policy objectives.
