Gbajabiamila confirms Tinubu administration’s focus on healthcare improvements

The Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, has reiterated the administration’s commitment to overhauling Nigeria’s health sector, emphasising improvements in service delivery and infrastructure across the country.
Rt. Hon. Gbajabiamila made the remarks during a meeting with the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), led by its national president, Haruna Mamman, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The association recently won the rights to host the Commonwealth Nurses and Midwives Federation (CNMF) Conference for the West African region, scheduled for April 20–24, 2026, making Nigeria the first African nation to host the event.
During the meeting, Gbajabiamila pointed to several strides the government had made in healthcare including renovation and revitalization of primary healthcare centers nationwide and expansion of National Health Insurance Scheme coverage from 20 million to 60 million citizens among others.
He congratulated NANNM on securing the CNMF conference and stressed the need for a clear plan outlining the steps leading up to the event.
He also encouraged cooperation between the association, the Federal Ministry of Health, and the Coordinating Minister of Health, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, to ensure smooth preparations.
Earlier, Haruna Mamman outlined areas where government support would be critical, including facilitating visas and financial support for international participants and hosting executives from the United Kingdom, Europe, and Africa attending the conference among others.
Mamman also highlighted that the conference, which would attract participants from 56 Commonwealth countries and feature the Commonwealth Secretary-General, Shirley Botchwey, would promote professional excellence and elevate Nigeria’s profile in healthcare leadership.
He noted that the CNMF meeting would focus strengthening healthcare systems across participating countries, promoting professional development in nursing and midwifery as well as fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing among member nations.
Gbajabiamila reassured stakeholders that the Tinubu administration remained committed to creating a healthcare environment that supports professionals and improves services for all Nigerians.
