Tinubu, Sultan of Sokoto, Uzodimma to headline NGE 2025 annual editors’ conference in Abuja

The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) has announced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Saad Abubakar, and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma will headline its 2025 Annual Editors’ Conference in Abuja.

In a press release issued on Wednesday and signed by NGE President Eze Anaba and General Secretary Onuoha Ukeh, the Guild stated that the two-day conference is scheduled for November 12 and 13, 2025, at the Presidential Villa Banquet Hall and the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Conference Centre in Jahi, Abuja.

The statement revealed that President Tinubu would officially declare the conference open on November 12 at the Presidential Villa Banquet Hall, while the Sultan of Sokoto and Prince Nduka Obaigbena, Chairman of Arise News and ThisDay newspaper, would serve as the conference chairpersons.

The Guild expects attendance from no fewer than 500 participants, including NGE members, government officials, business leaders, members of the diplomatic corps, and other dignitaries from across the country.

The theme of this year’s conference, “Democratic Governance and National Cohesion: The Role of Editors,” with the sub-theme “Electoral Integrity and Trust Deficit: What Nigerians Expect in 2027,” reflects the country’s current socio-political and economic challenges, the NGE said.

“The editors’ conference is a credible platform to discuss and proffer solutions to issues pertaining to national development and cohesion,” the Guild added.

The release also outlined the key speakers and topics.

On the first day, Professor Awa Kalu (SAN) will address “Election Disputes and Judicial Integrity: Navigating the Thin Line Between Law and Politics.

Professor Sheriff Ibrahim, Head of Political Science and International Relations at the University of Abuja, will also present on “State of the Nation: Imperative of Economic and Political Reforms in a Challenged Nation.

”On the second day, former Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Lucky Irabor will speak on “Media, Terrorism, and National Security: Addressing the Complexities,” and Prof. Abiodun Adeniyi, Dean of Post-Graduate Studies at Baze University, will examine “The Evolving Face of Journalism: Battling Misinformation, AI Disruption, and Credibility Gap.”

An Executive Session is also scheduled for November 13, providing an opportunity for editors to engage directly with government officials, political leaders, and business executives on critical national issues.

The NGE noted that the Annual Editors’ Conference (ANEC) is held every year to provide editors with a platform to address issues of social, economic, and political significance affecting Nigeria.
