Nation to see improved security soon, COAS assures

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt General Waidi Shaibu, has reassured Nigerians that security across the country is set to improve in the coming weeks.
The Army Chief gave the assurance after briefing President Bola Tinubu at the State House, Abuja, on the current state of national security.
Speaking with journalists on Tuesday, Lt Gen Shaibu said his recent operational tour of the Northeast revealed positive developments in the fight against insurgency and criminal activities.
He described the overall security situation during his review as “satisfactory,” citing enhanced collaboration among security agencies and sustained pressure on criminal networks.
When asked what Nigerians should expect in the near future, Shaibu stated, “They should look out for improved security across the country.”
While he did not provide specific operational plans, his comments reflected ongoing joint operations targeting insurgents, bandits, and other violent groups across multiple states.
Shaibu emphasised the importance of joint efforts, intelligence sharing, and strategic planning in ensuring that citizens across the country can live and work without fear.
The Army Chief concluded that the government remains committed to safeguarding lives and property as part of broader national security reforms.
The assurance from the COAS followed a series of recent Nigerian Air Force operations over the weekend, which reportedly neutralized hundreds of terrorists in Borno, Katsina, and Kwara states.
Shaibu’s briefing reportedly included updates from these operations and a broader review of the national security landscape.
Observers note that the COAS’ visit to the Northeast, a region long affected by insurgency, underscored the military’s commitment to consolidating gains and improving civilian safety.
Analysts said continued coordination among the Army, Air Force, and other security agencies will be crucial to sustaining progress in conflict-prone regions.
