Oborevwori’s leadership proves he was well-prepared for governorship despite opposition – Okowa

Former Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has expressed strong confidence in the administration of his successor, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, declaring that the governor’s performance in office has validated his readiness for leadership despite the stiff opposition that trailed his emergence as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in 2022.

Okowa made the remarks on Tuesday during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Delta Special Economic Zone (Kwale Free Trade Zone) in Kwale, Ndokwa West Local Government Area, where he served as Chairman of the occasion.

Speaking at the event, the former governor lauded Oborevwori’s commitment to good governance, describing him as a leader who came into office fully prepared and determined to make a positive impact.

He said the governor’s approach to leadership marked by project continuity, policy consistency, and the initiation of new developmental projects — has reassured Deltans of his capacity to lead effectively.

“We have a governor who was prepared for the job and is doing it the way it ought to be done.

”I sincerely congratulate and thank him for the bold steps he has taken so far,” Okowa said.

Okowa particularly commended Oborevwori for continuing and completing several projects initiated by previous administrations rather than abandoning them.

According to him, such continuity reflects political maturity and a deep understanding of long-term governance.

He also noted that the establishment of the Delta Special Economic Zone would open new frontiers for industrial and economic growth, stimulate job creation, and position Ndokwa and Delta State as a future industrial hub.

“People may not immediately appreciate what is happening here today.

“But in five to ten years, the people of Ndokwa and the entire Delta State will look back and thank you for laying a solid foundation for sustainable growth, ” he said.

Reflecting on the controversies that surrounded Oborevwori’s emergence as PDP flagbearer in 2022, Okowa recounted that his decision to support him was guided by conviction and faith.

“When people objected and felt I had made a wrong choice, I told them I had studied him since 2001 and knew he would deliver.

”I am glad to say that God confirmed to me twice that he was the right man for the job,” he stated.

The former governor expressed satisfaction that his judgment has now been vindicated by Oborevwori’s performance in office.

“Two years down the line, I do not flatter you, Mr. Governor. I am genuinely impressed with the way you are going.

Delta people must support and continue to pray for you because you are laying the groundwork for a stronger future,” Okowa added.

Okowa also called on the people of Ndokwa and surrounding communities to give their full support to the economic zone project, urging them to avoid land disputes and instead embrace the development opportunities it brings.

He praised the management team of the Delta Special Economic Zone, led by Brigadier-General Mike Ndubisi (rtd) and Pastor Gordon Akpovie, for their dedication to the project’s vision.

According to him, the initiative will attract industries, unlock gas and energy resources, and further diversify the state’s economy.

Okowa prayed for the continued success of the Oborevwori administration, stating that Delta State is on a progressive path that must be maintained for the benefit of future generations.
