World Cup: Super Eagles resolves allowances dispute resolved, resume training

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are set to resume training after a brief boycott over unpaid allowances owed by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
The players and officials reportedly skipped their Tuesday evening training due to delays in payments linked to their qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the 2026 World Cup playoff.
On Wednesday, the team’s media officer, Promise Efoghe, confirmed that the dispute had been resolved, announcing that the squad would return to training by 5 pm.
While the specific details of the agreement were not disclosed, the development appears to have eased tensions within the team.
Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong also took to X (formerly Twitter) to confirm that players’ concerns had been addressed, stating that the squad is “as before, focused on the games ahead.”
The Super Eagles will face Gabon in the semi-final of the 2026 African World Cup playoffs on Thursday.
The winner will advance to face either Congo DR or Cameroon in the final for a chance to secure a spot at the intercontinental playoff.
