Fintiri rejects PDP’s expulsion of Wike

Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has formally distanced himself from the decision of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to remove the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, from its fold, insisting the move does not align with his principles or vision for the party.
In a statement released on Saturday by his Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, the governor made clear that he neither supported nor endorsed the expulsion, which also affected former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose, PDP National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, and several others.
Fintiri, who serves as chairman of the PDP’s 2025 Elective National Convention, said the action taken at the Ibadan convention risked deepening internal fractures at a time when unity was crucial.
“As a committed member of the PDP, my position has always been consistent.
“I stand for peace, stability, and the survival of our party. I cannot support any initiative that threatens to push the PDP further into crisis, ” he said.
He stressed that reconciliation, not purging remained the only viable path to reposition the party for future electoral battles.
The governor urged party leaders and stakeholders to focus on healing long-standing rifts rather than escalating them.
According to him, the PDP must embrace dialogue and intentional cooperation if it hopes to rebuild its national relevance.
“My commitment is to any process that strengthens cohesion and ensures progress,” he added.
He reiterated that every decision he takes is guided by the goal of fostering peace within the party.
Wike, Fayose, and other top party members were expelled during Saturday’s national convention in Ibadan, following a motion moved by PDP chieftain Bode George.
The motion, which accused the affected members of engaging in anti-party activities and pursuing legal actions harmful to the PDP, was supported unanimously by delegates in attendance.
The vote was formally presented by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, after being seconded by the chairman of the PDP in Bauchi.
The convention drew several key figures, including Governors Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), and Fintiri himself, alongside party leaders such as National Chairman Umar Damagum, Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro, former Osun State governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, former Gombe State governor Ibrahim Dankwambo, and Board of Trustees Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara.
Fintiri’s stance comes on the heels of a similar rejection by Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, who earlier announced that he was not consulted on the expulsion and could not endorse it.
With two PDP governors now openly questioning the process, the party appears set for deeper internal debates on leadership, loyalty, and its path forward.
