Mutfwang disagrees with PDP over expulsion of Wike, Fayose, others

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has publicly disowned the decision of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to expel the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, along with Ayodele Fayose, Samuel Anyanwu and several other party figures.
In a statement issued by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, the governor clarified that the expulsions did not reflect his views and were not the product of any consultation within the party’s leadership structures.
Mutfwang emphasised that neither the PDP Governors’ Forum nor the National Executive Committee (NEC) had deliberated on the motion before it was presented at the national convention in Ibadan.
Mutfwang described the move as ill-timed, arguing that the party’s current challenges require reconciliation rather than punitive measures.
According to him, the PDP needs unity and purposeful dialogue if it intends to recover from years of internal disputes and electoral disappointments.
He warned that expelling key figures at a delicate moment could further widen existing divisions and hinder the party’s efforts to reorganize itself ahead of future elections.
Mutfwang’s reaction added to mounting resistance from within the PDP.
His remarks came shortly after Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri similarly rejected the decision, insisting he was neither part of the deliberations nor in support of the expulsions.
The party had on Saturday voted unanimously at its national convention to remove Wike, Fayose, Anyanwu and others for alleged anti-party activities and for actions said to have contributed to disunity, including repeated legal battles against the party’s interests.
With two sitting governors now distancing themselves from the resolution, the fallout from the convention is expected to intensify debates about leadership, loyalty, and the future of the PDP.
