Kebbi School Attack: Rescue efforts underway – Gov. Idris

Kebbi State is reeling from a tragic attack at the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS) in Maga, where armed bandits killed Vice Principal Malam Hassan Makuku and abducted 25 female students on Sunday night.

The raid, which occurred in the Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area, threw the community into fear and mourning. Witnesses reported that the attackers operated without resistance, targeting both staff and students.

Governor Nasir Idris visited Maga on Monday to meet with security agencies, traditional rulers, and the parents of the abducted students. Addressing journalists, he assured families that every effort was being made to rescue the schoolgirls safely.

“The unfortunate thing has already happened. They have abducted our children.

”We came here, we saw things for ourselves, and we met the parents.

“We gave them confidence and assured them that security agencies will do everything necessary.

”This is the essence of our coming to Maga—to see the people and give them encouragement, ” he said.

Security operatives, including police tactical units, military personnel, and vigilante groups, have been deployed to track the attackers and secure the students.

Governor Idris emphasised the importance of calm and cooperation as the rescue operations continue.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) condemned the killings and abduction, blaming the APC-led federal government for worsening insecurity.

”PDP National Publicity Secretary Ini Ememobong described the incident as “tragic” and urged President Bola Tinubu to take urgent action to protect Nigerian lives and end the cycle of school kidnappings.

“This tragic incident highlights the alarming rise in insecurity under the Tinubu administration, which has consistently preferred the politicization of governance over the protection of citizens,” the party said.

PDP also expressed condolences to the families of the slain vice principal, the abducted students, and the school staff.

This incident adds to a series of school abductions in northern Nigeria, including Nasarawa, Plateau, Kano, and Katsina.

The Federal Government has pledged to intensify rescue operations and hold the perpetrators accountable while urging citizens to remain calm and vigilant.
