FG vows to strengthen school security, safeguard learning environments

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to enhancing the safety of schools and protecting learning environments across Nigeria, with special focus on communities most vulnerable to attacks.

The declaration was made by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, in the aftermath of a tragic assault on the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State, where armed assailants killed a teacher and abducted at least 25 students.

According to reports from the police, the attackers struck the school premises on Monday, plunging the local community into grief and fear.

In a statement issued in Abuja, Dr. Alausa described the incident as “heartbreaking” and extended his condolences to the families of the victims, the school community, and the people of Kebbi State.

He emphasised that no parent should endure the trauma of seeing their child taken, and no teacher should risk their life while fulfilling the vital role of educating the nation’s children.

The minister condemned the attack as a “cruel and senseless act,” stressing that it not only targeted innocent students and educators but also threatened the nation’s future.

Alausa assured that the Federal Ministry of Education was working in close collaboration with security and intelligence agencies, as well as the Kebbi State Government, to ensure the safe return of the abducted students and bring the perpetrators to justice.

“This painful incident strengthens our resolve.

“Our children deserve to learn in safety. Our teachers deserve to serve without fear.

”We will continue to take every measure to ensure that every school in Nigeria is a place of protection and hope, ” he said.

The Federal Government’s renewed pledge comes amid rising concerns over school security in parts of the country, with recent attacks underscoring the urgent need for effective protective measures.
