Zulum calls for statewide fast, prayers as Boko Haram attacks intensify

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has declared a day of fasting and prayer in response to a renewed wave of insecurity linked to Boko Haram operations in the North-East.

Delivering a statewide broadcast on Saturday, the governor urged residents to seek divine intervention as the region confronts another surge in violent attacks.

Zulum said the rising threats demand not only military responses but also collective spiritual action from the people.

His words: “As citizens grounded in faith, we cannot rely solely on physical security measures,” he said.

“Therefore, I am declaring Monday, November 24, 2025, as a special day of fasting and prayer across Borno State for peace to return to our communities and to Nigeria as a whole.”

He further appealed to all residents, Christians, Muslims, and people of other faiths to participate, stressing that unity in prayer could help ease the burden on the state and strengthen morale at a difficult time.

According to the governor, Communal fasting and prayer foster resilience and bring spiritual comfort, especially when conventional security structures are under strain.

Borno State has witnessed renewed militant activity in recent weeks, prompting concern among security agencies and civil leaders.

The governor’s call adds to growing appeals for both practical and spiritual responses to the escalating violence.

A video of the governor’s broadcast was released by the state government.
