Gani Adams warns of imminent terror threats in South-West Nigeria

The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams, has raised alarm over the growing threat of terrorist attacks in South-West Nigeria, claiming that Kogi and Kwara states are being used as testing grounds ahead of planned assaults in key South-Western states.

Adams, who also serves as the national coordinator of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), issued the warning in an interview at the weekend with News Central, citing intelligence that armed groups responsible for recent Northern attacks have already infiltrated several communities across Yorubaland.

“Our country is in a serious security threat; what is happening in most of the states now calls for concern,” Adams stated, noting that intelligence indicates widespread infiltration.

According to Adams, the terrorists are using Kogi and Kwara as buffer zones to test their operations before launching attacks in South-Western states.

“You know, Kogi and Kwara are just like buffer zones to the South-West.

”What they are doing in Kwara is just a test of grounds to start the major attacks in the South-West.

”The information at our disposal is that they want to attack Oyo, Ekiti, Ondo, and Lagos states,” he said.

Adams alleged that these groups were coordinated by foreign actors, pursuing multiple motivations including religion, economics, and ethnic considerations.

“I can tell you authoritatively that this thing is being coordinated by some foreigners; it goes beyond Nigerians.

“One of the reasons behind these attacks is three issues: it’s religiously motivated, economically motivated, and ethnicity is there.

”Different groups have their own way of target on the basis of their own ideology, ” he said.

Adams’ warning followed a series of high-profile attacks in Northern Nigeria, including:

Niger State: Over 300 pupils, students, and teachers abducted from St. Mary’s Papiri Private Catholic Secondary School in Agwara.

Kebbi State: Attack on Maga Comprehensive Girls’ Secondary School, resulting in the abduction of 25 female students and the killing of a staff member.

Kwara State: Christ Apostolic Church parish in Oke Isegun, Eruku, attacked, leaving three worshippers dead while abducting the pastor and several members.

Adams described these attacks as part of a coordinated pattern of escalating threats, urging the federal and state governments to take urgent nationwide action.

“Credible information available to us indicates that terrorists have already infiltrated many communities in Yorubaland,” he emphasized, reiterating the immediacy of the threat to South-Western states.

The Aare Ona Kakanfo stressed the need for heightened vigilance, coordinated security measures, and proactive intelligence gathering to prevent South-Western communities from becoming the next targets.

He urged citizens, community leaders, and government authorities to remain alert and united against the looming threats.

“The situation demands urgent attention.

”Every community in the South-West must be prepared, and security agencies must intensify efforts to detect and neutralise these threats before they escalate,” Adams warned.
