Renaissance Africa Energy champions energy security, youth development at University of Ibadan

Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited has taken a significant step in promoting energy security, industrialisation, and community development, engaging students and alumni at the University of Ibadan over the weekend.
The initiative, highlighted during the university’s Alumni Homecoming Event, featured the company’s Managing Director, Tony Attah, who delivered the Distinguished Alumni Lecture titled: “Energy, Security and Economic Sustainability: The Role of Nigeria’s Oil and Gas Sector in National Development.”
Speaking to an audience of students, faculty, and alumni, Attah stressed that energy security is inseparable from economic development.
He argued that Nigeria’s vast oil and gas resources could be strategically leveraged to eliminate energy poverty, create economic opportunities, and transform the lives of millions of Nigerians.
“With Renaissance, it’s a new beginning in Nigeria.
“We are focused on rallying the necessary support from both private and government stakeholders to address energy poverty that has plagued us for decades.
”Sustainable energy is the bedrock for industrialisation, job creation, and national prosperity, ” Attah said.
He positioned Renaissance Africa Energy as a pioneering force in the Nigerian energy sector, aimed at placing the country at the center of African development and industrialisation.
The event also showcased Renaissance’s commitment to education, youth empowerment, and community development.
Attah, who received a warm welcome at the Faculty of Technology by Dean Professor Isaac Bamgboye and other principal officers, participated in several notable initiatives:
Inauguration of the Renaissance JV Arena: A state-of-the-art synthetic mini football pitch, donated in partnership with NNPC Limited, TotalEnergies, and Agip Energy and Natural Resources.
Attah described the arena as a lasting “symbol of excellence, vision, and commitment to youth and community development.”
“By empowering our youth and tackling energy poverty, we are not just transforming communities—we are shaping the future of Nigeria, ” he added.
Renovation of Independence Hall Reading Rooms: Attah personally funded renovations to the reading rooms where he had spent time as an undergraduate, highlighting a personal connection to the institution.
Support for the ‘Light Up U.I. Project’: A solar-powered streetlights scheme spearheaded by Renaissance U.I. alumni to enhance campus infrastructure and safety.
In recognition of his contributions, Tony Attah was conferred with an Award of Excellence, celebrating his leadership in the oil and gas sector, dedication to sustainable energy development, and unwavering commitment to education and youth empowerment.
Michael Adande, spokesperson for Renaissance, emphasised that the company’s engagement with the University of Ibadan was part of a broader strategy to link energy advocacy with tangible community impact, nurturing the next generation of Nigerian leaders and professionals.
The event underscored the growing role of private sector leadership in national development, demonstrating how energy security initiatives can be paired with education and youth-focused interventions to create sustainable societal benefits.
