Delta Police debunk false rumour of armed attack at Utagba-Ogbe girls’ school

The Delta State Police Command has moved swiftly to dispel circulating rumours of an alleged armed invasion at Girls’ Secondary School, Utagba-Ogbe, Kwale.

The purported incident, reported to have occurred on Monday at approximately 9:30 a.m., has been confirmed to be entirely unfounded.

According to the Police Command, panic spread among students following the circulation of inaccurate information, which was subsequently amplified by unverified online reports alleging gunshots and heightened community anxiety.

In response to the reports, Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, immediately directed a prompt verification operation. The DCO of Kwale Division, SP Udofia Kufre, led a patrol team to the school to assess the situation on the ground.

Interviews with the school’s Vice Principal and the security officer on duty confirmed that no attack took place, and that the students’ alarm stemmed solely from misinformation.

Following the investigation, police officers visited neighbouring schools within the Kwale axis as a precautionary measure.

All institutions were found to be calm, with academic activities proceeding as normal.

Parents who rushed to the school in fear of their children’s safety have been reassured that the situation is under control and that the schools remain secure.

CP Abaniwonda has issued a stern warning against the spread of unverified rumours, stressing that such misinformation can cause unnecessary fear and disrupt educational activities.

He reaffirmed the Delta State Police Command’s commitment to responding promptly to credible threats while maintaining the safety and security of all schools across the state.

The Commissioner also urged school authorities to strengthen internal communication channels, report suspicious activities immediately to nearby police formations, and maintain close coordination with local security outfits to ensure a safe learning environment for students.
