Nigeria police take custody of fugitive suspect in FRSC officer murder case

The Nigeria Police Force, through its INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) in Abuja, has successfully taken full custody of a fugitive suspect wanted in connection with the alleged abduction and murder of a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officer and her young daughter in Osun State.

A statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, on Monday, confirmed that the suspect was handed over by the Ghana Police Service in Accra following a coordinated multi-agency operation.

The suspect reportedly fled Nigeria after the alleged crime, prompting a cross-border manhunt. Acting on credible intelligence that the individual was hiding in Ghana, the Ghana Police effected his arrest and immediately informed the Nigeria Police Force.

INTERPOL NCB Abuja promptly mobilised to Accra to facilitate the smooth handover of the suspect.

Commenting on the operation, Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, extended condolences to the bereaved family and assured the public that the investigation would be thorough and carried to a logical conclusion.

“The suspect will be arraigned in accordance with the law,” the IGP said, adding that the professionalism and swift action of the Ghana Police Service were highly commendable.

The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to protecting the lives of all citizens and ensuring that offenders are brought to justice, regardless of geographic boundaries.

The Force also underscored its determination to strengthen international collaboration in tackling transnational crime, highlighting the critical role of cross-border intelligence sharing and cooperation.

This successful operation marked another demonstration of the Nigeria Police Force’s resolve to pursue suspects across borders and enforce justice for heinous crimes.
