Tinubu launches electric tricycle scheme to empower youth

President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday unveiled the Electric Tricycle Empowerment Initiative, aimed at boosting youth self-employment, reducing transport costs, and promoting environmental sustainability.

Represented at the event by Labour Minister Dr. Muhammad Dingyadi, Tinubu highlighted the programme’s alignment with Nigeria’s national energy transition plan.

He noted that the electric tricycles could cut transportation costs by up to 40 per cent while offering a cleaner alternative to conventional fossil-fuel vehicles, reducing the country’s carbon footprint.

Minister of Youth Development Ayodele Olawande described the scheme as a transformative step for young Nigerians, particularly those in the informal sector.

Permanent Secretary of the Youth Development Ministry, Dr. Maryam Keshinro, said the project supports long-term economic growth through green jobs, clean transport, and innovation under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

NATOMORAS President Usman Gwoza called the initiative a symbol of hope, emphasizing its potential to strengthen Nigeria’s green economy while expanding opportunities for electric mobility nationwide.

The programme is designed to ensure inclusive participation in government-led empowerment initiatives.
