Obasanjo applauds Mutfwang for sustaining ongoing projects in Plateau

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has praised Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang for prioritising the completion of inherited projects and sustaining the developmental agenda set by past administrations.
The commendation came on Friday during the 2025 Christmas Carols and Festival of Songs hosted by the state government in Jos.
Obasanjo told guests at the event that the culture of discontinuing projects after a change in leadership has long hindered progress in many parts of the country.
He said Mutfwang’s decision to revive and finalise abandoned initiatives demonstrates responsible governance and places Plateau on a more stable development path.
The former president described continuity as a critical element of effective governance, noting that many communities suffer when public projects are discarded halfway.
He applauded the Plateau administration for embracing a model that saves costs, maintains momentum and delivers results for citizens.
“I am encouraged by what I have observed in Plateau.
“The commitment to sustaining previously initiated projects is the kind of leadership our society needs to grow and move forward, ” he said.
Obasanjo also hailed the state government for organising the carols and festival, saying such cultural events strengthen unity and harmony across communities.
He encouraged the governor to push for its inclusion in the global tourism calendar, arguing that its scale and appeal could attract regional and international visitors.
Highlighting Plateau’s natural beauty and long-standing reputation as a tourist destination, he said branding the carols as an annual global event could significantly boost the state’s tourism sector.
In his remarks, Governor Mutfwang thanked Obasanjo for honouring the invitation despite a demanding schedule.
He reiterated his administration’s dedication to fostering peace and unity in Plateau, explaining that the Christmas carols were organised as a platform to bring residents together.
According to him, the event promotes understanding, breaks social barriers and strengthens communal bonds.
He expressed optimism that the festival would grow into one of the state’s most influential instruments for reconciliation and cohesion.
“The essence of hosting this programme is to create a common space for our people.
“We want communities to reconnect, share joy and realise that we are stronger together, ” he said.
He assured the public that his government would continue to work toward a peaceful and stable Plateau, where development can thrive.
