Ganduje blasts Kano govt over call for his arrest

Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and ex-Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has sharply criticised the Kano State Government for demanding his arrest, describing the move as a reckless political stunt lacking any factual basis.
The government had accused Ganduje of making comments supportive of the formation of a militia-style group, an allegation he denies.
But in a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu, Ganduje insisted the accusation was nothing more than an attempt by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to divert public attention from what he described as the administration’s growing failures.
Ganduje said the call for his arrest underscores what he called the governor’s “desperation and incompetence.
He argued that the state leadership should focus instead on tackling worsening insecurity in several local government areas.
He accused Governor Yusuf of neglecting communities grappling with persistent attacks, listing Bagwai, Shanono and Tsanyawa as examples of areas that have suffered repeated security breaches without receiving any intervention or visits from the state’s chief executive.
“It is troubling that while residents live in fear, the governor spends his energy on chasing imaginary threats rather than providing leadership,” the statement read.
Ganduje alleged that Yusuf’s handling of security issues exposes a disconnect between the administration and the people it is meant to protect.
Olofu stressed that Ganduje has never been linked to violence or actions that threaten the peace of Kano State.
He argued that the former governor’s eight-year tenure was marked by stability and security, noting that Kano remained one of the most peaceful states during that period.
He contrasted that with the current government, which he accused of lacking a clear direction on security and governance.
“The record is clear. He maintained a peaceful environment throughout his time in office, earning recognition for safeguarding lives and property, something the current administration has failed to uphold, ” he said.
Ganduje urged Governor Yusuf to return to the basics of leadership by addressing insecurity and improving public safety rather than resorting to media attacks.
“Leadership is not demonstrated through theatrics or issuing frivolous statements.
“It is shown through responsibility, empathy, and decisive action qualities clearly missing in the present administration, ” he added.
The political clash between both men marks yet another chapter in the long-running rivalry between Ganduje and the NNPP-led Kano Government, which has repeatedly accused the former governor of misconduct since leaving office.
