Bandits contact family of abducted Sokoto Bride ….father appeals for urgent Govt intervention

The father of the young bride abducted during a midnight attack in Chacho village, Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State, says the kidnappers have reached out to the family but have not yet made any ransom demands.

Speaking to journalists that visited the village on Monday, Malam Umaru Chacho confirmed that the bandits only requested to speak with the traditional ruler of the community.

He urged the government and security agencies to act swiftly before the situation escalates.

According to Chacho, a total of 13 people were taken during the invasion — including the bride, her bridesmaid, two male relatives, and nine other women.

The armed men reportedly arrived around midnight, went straight to the bride’s family compound, and forced their way into her room while demanding the whereabouts of both the bride and her bridesmaid.

It is still unclear whether the bride herself was the target of the attack.

During the incident, one person believed to be the bride’s brother was shot and seriously injured. Because Chacho village lacks medical facilities, the victim had to be taken to a far-off community for treatment.

Residents say Sunday’s abduction is the latest in a long string of violent assaults on Chacho village.

The community has suffered nearly ten attacks in the last five years, during which more than 30 people have been killed.

Despite its large population, the village remains without basic infrastructure, compounding the hardship faced by locals.

Malam Chacho is calling on authorities to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted victims, noting that the community is exhausted, traumatized, and living in constant fear.
