Oborevwori introduces automatic postgraduate scholarships for top graduates

In a landmark move to boost academic achievement and youth development, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, has approved automatic scholarships for the highest-performing graduates from the state’s four public universities.
The initiative was unveiled by Dr. Godfrey Enita, Executive Secretary of the Delta State Bursary and Scholarship Board, who emphasised that the policy reflects the governor’s commitment to the MORE Agenda, particularly its focus on nurturing human capital.
According to the Board, the programme will grant full funding for Master’s and Ph.D. studies in accredited Nigerian universities to the top graduate of each academic session.
The scholarship covers students from Delta State University, Abraka; University of Delta, Agbor; Southern Delta University, Ozoro; and Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba.
Dr. Enita noted that while selection for the award is automatic based on academic performance, beneficiaries would still be required to complete the standard documentation and verification process before receiving the scholarship.
He described the programme as a strategic effort by the state government to produce highly skilled young professionals capable of contributing to Delta State’s growth and positioning the state as a leader in educational development.
“The initiative is designed not only to reward excellence but also to motivate students across our universities to aim higher and reach their full potential,” Dr. Enita said.
Education analysts said the policy could spark greater competition among undergraduates and strengthen Delta State’s reputation as a centre for academic innovation and youth empowerment in Nigeria.
