Lagos extends rail service hours to accommodate ‘The Experience 2025’ crowd

As Lagos prepares to host its annual gospel music extravaganza, The Experience 2025, city transport authorities have announced extended train operations to manage the expected surge of commuters.
The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) revealed that the Blue Line of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit system would operate well beyond its usual hours on the night of the event.
The Experience, held every first Friday in December, is widely regarded as Africa’s largest gospel concert. Founded in 2006 by Pastor Paul Adefarasin of the House on the Rock Church.
The event has grown into a star-studded all-night festival that draws attendees from across Nigeria and beyond.
In a statement issued Thursday, LAMATA’s Head of Corporate Communications, Kolawole Ojelabi, confirmed that the Blue Line would remain operational until 11:43 p.m. on Friday, December 5, surpassing its standard closing time of 9:30 p.m.
“This extension is aimed at ensuring smooth movement for the large number of passengers expected to attend the concert,” Ojelabi explained.
The agency also announced early morning operations on Saturday, December 6, starting at 4:00 a.m. and continuing until 9:30 p.m., to accommodate attendees returning from the event or traveling across the city for other activities.
In addition, the Red Line will maintain its usual Friday schedule, operating from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. for morning commuters, and 5:20 p.m. to 8:40 p.m. for the evening peak.
The Red Line does not operate on Saturdays, LAMATA noted.
Passengers are encouraged to use the Cowry Card for access and to plan their travel in accordance with station guidelines to ensure a safe and efficient commute.
The agency emphasised cooperation with station officials as critical to managing the expected crowds.
Normal operations for both the Red and Blue Lines are set to resume on Sunday, December 7, 2025.
LAMATA officials also reminded commuters that the rail network remains a reliable transport option and encouraged residents to take advantage of the extended schedule to ease congestion on the roads.
With tens of thousands expected to converge on Lagos Island for the musical event, authorities are urging early arrival and adherence to travel advisories, ensuring both safety and convenience for the city’s bustling population during the festive weekend.
