Circuits Africa launches film veterans fund to support aging nollywood icons

Circuits Africa, a leading platform for virtual cinema and digital content distribution, has introduced a groundbreaking initiative aimed at ensuring the well-being of Nigeria’s senior film actors and filmmakers.

The Film Veterans Dignity Fund is designed to provide long-term financial support and healthcare for industry veterans who are no longer active professionally.

Mrs. Imade Bibowei-Osuobeni, Chief Operating Officer of Circuits Africa, announced the initiative during a roundtable with journalists in Lagos on Friday.

According to her, the fund, which was officially launched earlier this year in January, is a recognition of the contributions of pioneers who helped shape the Nigerian film industry.

“The reality is that many of our veteran actors and filmmakers, who once entertained and inspired millions, face financial hardships in their later years.

Some even rely on public donations for survival and medical expenses. This fund seeks to address that,” Bibowei-Osuobeni said.

The fund provides a monthly stipend for life, alongside enrollment in a comprehensive health insurance scheme for beneficiaries aged 70 and above.

Notable veterans already receiving support include Pete Edochie, Pa Lere Paimo, and Idowu Philips, popularly known as Iya Rainbow.

Bibowei-Osuobeni also confirmed that additional veterans would be included in the programme in the near future.

To secure the long-term sustainability of the fund, Circuits Africa has committed ten percent of its revenue to financing the initiative.

Bibowei-Osuobeni emphasized that the fund reflects the company’s belief that those who laid the foundation for Nollywood deserve dignity, security, and respect in their twilight years.

“This initiative is not just about financial support,” she explained.

“It is about honouring the legacy of the men and women who helped build one of the largest film industries in the world.

It is a statement that their contributions will never be forgotten.”

The launch of the Film Veterans Dignity Fund marks a significant step in addressing long-standing challenges faced by retired actors and filmmakers in Nigeria.

It highlights the potential for private sector platforms like Circuits Africa to play an active role in social impact, complementing their core mission of digital content distribution.

By combining monthly financial support with health coverage, the fund ensures that aging Nollywood icons can maintain their independence, dignity, and quality of life, even after stepping away from the spotlight.
