Apapa Customs seizes 25.5kg of cocaine from Brazilian vessel

The Apapa Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intercepted 25.5 kilograms of cocaine aboard the Brazilian ship MV San Antonio, officials confirmed on Saturday.
Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba, the Customs Area Controller, revealed that the illicit drugs were concealed in five bags containing 24 parcels and were discovered following intelligence-led inspections at the port.
The vessel, which departed from Brazil and made stops in Honduras and Guatemala countries known for drug trafficking, was detained immediately.
Oshoba commended the collaboration between the NCS and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), noting that the operation was part of ongoing efforts to ensure lawful trade in Apapa.
“This seizure demonstrates the effectiveness of profiling and intelligence-based operations,” he said.
He emphasised that customs remained committed to protecting national security and the economy even during the yuletide trade season.
The seized cocaine was officially handed over to NDLEA representatives, led by Commander Haliru Umar of the Apapa Strategic Command, who lauded the customs officers for the successful operation and promised a thorough investigation into the case.
Oshoba reiterated that all cargo entering and exiting Apapa port would undergo stringent inspection to prevent unlawful trade.
“No criminal or group of lawless persons can circumvent our surveillance,” he said, warning that similar illicit attempts would meet strict enforcement measures.
The seizure sends a strong message that both national security and trade integrity remain priorities for Nigerian authorities.
