PDP to take legal action over Rivers Assembly defections

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced plans to take legal action to reclaim the mandates of Rivers State lawmakers who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, made the disclosure in a statement on Saturday in Abuja, condemning what he described as a “re‑defection” by certain members of the State Assembly.

Ememobong stated that the lawmakers had previously defected and later recanted, acting, in his words, under the direction of their “paymaster and demigod.”

He added that their actions since taking office had demonstrated that they were “political puppets obstructing democratic progress.”

“They will go down in history as enemies of democracy and as those who made a mockery of the legislature,” he said.

The PDP spokesman also described the lawmakers’ latest move as “a defection from APC to APC,” insisting they had abandoned the platform that initially brought them into office.

“Consequently, the PDP will take legal steps to activate constitutional provisions to recover the mandates gained under our banner,” Ememobong said.

He further urged party members in Rivers State to remain resolute as the party continues efforts to rebuild based on fairness, equity, and inclusiveness.
