Despite internal turmoil, PDP remains hopeful – Ogidi

Emmanuel Ogidi, caretaker chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-South geopolitical zone, has expressed confidence that the party will overcome its current internal challenges.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, Ogidi emphasised that the PDP continues to represent democratic opposition in Nigeria.

“We are fighting a system that is trying to destroy democracy. There is hope for democracy because PDP is the face of the opposition,” he said.

The PDP has recently faced a series of internal conflicts, prompting several resignations. Notably, former party spokesman Kola Ologbondiyan resigned on December 6 and is expected to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The crisis escalated around the party’s elective conference held on November 15 in Ibadan, Oyo State, amid a backdrop of legal disputes. Conflicting rulings by the federal and Oyo state high courts created confusion over whether the convention should proceed.

On November 14, Justice Peter Lifu of the federal high court suspended the convention, followed by a similar order from Justice James Omotoso.

Later that same day, Justice Ladiran Akintola of the Oyo state high court authorized the convention to continue under INEC supervision.

Despite these challenges, Ogidi remained optimistic about the PDP’s role as a leading opposition force in Nigeria.
