Nigeria, Saudi Arabia sign 5-year defence cooperation MoU

Nigeria and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have formalized a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance defence and military collaboration between the two countries.
The agreement, announced in a statement by Ahmed Wudil, Special Assistant on Media to the Minister of State for Defence, would encompass strategic cooperation in security, military training, intelligence sharing, defence production, and joint operations aimed at promoting sustainable security development.
The MoU was signed on behalf of Nigeria by Dr. Mohammed Bello Matawalle, Minister of State for Defence, while Dr. Khaleed H. Al-Biyari signed for Saudi Arabia.
According to the Defence Ministry, the pact represents a significant milestone in strengthening bilateral relations and fostering closer collaboration to address emerging security challenges.
“This development underscores both nations’ commitment to working together to enhance peace and security,” the statement said.
Officials expressed optimism that the agreement would contribute to resolving ongoing security concerns in certain parts of Nigeria, signaling a new chapter in the country’s defence partnerships.
The Ministry of Defence welcomed the MoU, emphasising that closer cooperation with Saudi Arabia is expected to bolster Nigeria’s capacity in intelligence, tactical operations, and defence technology.
