Keyamo commends Fubara for improving airport infrastructure

Mr Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development has commended Gov. Siminalaye Fubara of Rivers for taking steps to improve airport infrastructure in the state.

Keyamo made the commendation on Friday in Ipo, Ikwerre Local Government Area, while inaugurating roads linking the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa.

The roads are the 12.2km Airport- Igwuruta Road, and the Driveways within Domestic wing of the airport.

The minister also commissioned work to begin on the 7.1km Airport-Ipo Road project which aimed to provide an independent route for residents of the community.

He said that before the governor’s intervention, the state of the road was a concern to users of the airport.

“We all know how critical the Port Harcourt International Airport is to the country. We commend the governor for this gesture,” he said.

Keyamo also commended the governor for quelling a community protest which almost disrupted operations at the airport.

“The governor has also provided facilities that helped to address some of the demands of the airport host communities.

“We thank the host communities for their cooperation, we assure them of Federal Government’s continued commitment to their welfare,” he said.

Earlier, Fubara pledged his administration’s commitment to always invest in infrastructure that would enhance the living conditions of Rivers people.

He said that when completed, the new road would ease the movement of residents of communities around the airport.

“The road will also tackle the issue interference with airport operations. It will enable adjoining communities to have an independent route,” he said.

The governor further said that the road would be delivered within eight months in order to make life easier for the people.

He urged the contractor, Lubrik Construction Company to live up to expectation by delivering the project according to schedule.

Mr Wobodo Charles, the Chairman, Ikwerre Local Government Council, described the governor’s gesture as ‘commendable and well-intended’

He said that the road would boost inter-community commerce and facilitate the development of the area.
