Tinubu meets Benue, Kaduna, Cross River governors in Abuja

President Bola Tinubu on Friday evening held separate, closed-door meetings with the governors of Benue, Kaduna and Cross River states at the State House, Abuja, against the backdrop of persistent security and governance challenges across parts of the country.

The governors, Hyacinth Alia of Benue, Uba Sani of Kaduna and Bassey Otu of Cross River, arrived at the Presidential Villa at different times and were ushered individually into the President’s first-floor office for discussions that were not open to the public.

Although the Presidency did not release details of the meetings, sources with knowledge of the engagements said the conversations focused largely on security concerns and other pressing governance issues affecting the three states.

These reportedly included communal conflicts, banditry and criminal violence, as well as the growing economic pressures facing state governments.

Benue and Kaduna states have in recent years grappled with recurring security incidents linked to armed groups and communal clashes, while Cross River has faced its own challenges related to border security, internal tensions and economic development.

At the conclusion of the meetings, the governors declined to address journalists who were waiting at the State House.

They exchanged brief greetings with members of the press but made no comments before leaving the premises in their official vehicles.

As of press time, no official statement had been issued by the Presidency on the outcome of what sources described as “strategic” consultations.
