NEMA activates emergency response lines for yuletide season

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has announced its readiness to respond promptly to emergencies during the Yuletide season and beyond.

Director General Zubaida Umar led a five-kilometre fitness exercise with staff in Abuja to ensure operational preparedness, teamwork, and physical fitness among personnel.

Umar reassured Nigerians that NEMA’s preparedness mechanisms were activated nationwide in coordination with security agencies, emergency responders, and other relevant stakeholders to enable rapid response to incidents.

She advised the public to remain safety-conscious, follow traffic rules, avoid speeding, and exercise caution on roads, waterways, and in residential areas.

Air Commodore Bature Usman, NEMA’s Director of Search and Rescue, highlighted that the exercise is a routine activity aimed at keeping personnel physically and mentally ready for emergencies.

The exercise involved key stakeholders from the Nigerian Armed Forces, Nigeria Police Force, NSCDC, and the Federal Road Safety Corps, emphasizing the importance of inter-agency collaboration in disaster response.

NEMA remains on standby across all zonal, territorial, and state operations offices to safeguard lives and property during the festive season.
