Private jet makes emergency landing at Kano Airport, no injuries reported

A private jet operated by Flybird on Sunday made an emergency landing at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) in Kano after experiencing a mechanical fault that led to the collapse of its nose wheel upon touchdown.
Airport officials confirmed that the aircraft landed safely despite the incident and that all 11 occupants on board, including three crew members, were evacuated without sustaining any injuries. Emergency procedures were immediately activated as soon as the problem was identified.
An airport source explained that the aircraft developed the fault during landing, prompting a swift response from aviation rescue and firefighting teams stationed at the airport.
According to the official, the response was carried out in line with standard safety protocols, ensuring that passengers and crew were safely removed from the aircraft within minutes.
“The aircraft suffered a nose wheel collapse while landing at MAKIA. All passengers and crew were evacuated safely, and no casualties were recorded,” the source said.
Another official disclosed that emergency response units secured the scene promptly to prevent further risk and to ensure the continued safety of airport operations.
The situation, the official added, was brought under control within a short time, allowing normal activities to resume.
Following the incident, the affected aircraft was removed from the runway and transferred to a designated area for technical assessment and repairs.
Airport authorities confirmed that flight operations at the Kano airport were not significantly disrupted after the runway was cleared.
As of the time of reporting, Flybird had not released an official statement regarding the incident.
Meanwhile, aviation authorities are expected to conduct preliminary assessments to determine the cause of the nose wheel failure as part of routine safety and investigation procedures.
The incident adds to ongoing discussions around aviation safety, although officials stressed that the swift emergency response and absence of injuries highlight the effectiveness of existing safety measures at the airport.
